WAKEFIELD UNITED

OSSETT TOWN
SUNDAY 6TH JANUARY - HOME
REDS
In a
goalless first half, the tough tackling William Hunt and elusive
Cavan Bush stood out for Wakefield. The half time team-talk did
the trick for the visitors however and they soon opened up a 2
goal lead after the break against a lacklustre Wakefield. Joel
Wainwright for Wakefield then turned the game on its head with a
powerful run before cooly slotting home for the goal of the
match. Wakefield were enjoying their best spell of the match
now and were passing the ball around in style. Bush and
Wainwright both hit the side netting and the equaliser looked to
be coming, but it was Ossett who had the final word with a
third goal against the run of play to finish the game off.
Keencost player of the match went to Matthew Hatfield for some
fine defending and bustling runs out of defence.
BLUES
This
game was a thriller from start to finish. Wakefield opened the
scoring with a composed finish from Jake Goldthorpe. Ossett
soon found some form however and scored 4 goals without reply
after some dodgy Wakefield defending. Wakefield were troubling
the visitors defence themselves though and looked dangerous on
the break with Callum Hicks a constant threat with his pace.
Deservedly Wakefield scored again before the break with
Goldthorpe notching his second from close range and the team
went in at half time with some hope. Ossett had other ideas
however and soon scored two further goals in the second half.
Jared Leeworthy prevented further damage with some acrobatic and
unorthodox goalkeeping. An own goal by Ossett then started
another Wakefield fightback and Joseph Wigglesworth set up a
grandstand finish after smashing the ball into the corner of the
net. Wakefield kept pressing until the end but had left it
just too late. Jake Goldthorpe won the Keencost player of the
match award for some clinical finishing and tireless work up
front.
