CASTLEFORD TOWN

WAKEFIELD UNITED
SUNDAY 2ND MARCH – AWAY
In blustery, chilly weather conditions Wakefield United played
away to hosts Castleford Town this weekend. Off to a steady
start Wakefield battled hard with the wind against them and time
soon told as the wind was well and truly blown out of their
sails. Castleford sent an array of shots that were on target
and with some scrappy play capitalized on every chance.
Wakefield United on the other hand only managed a couple of
shots from Daniel Clarke, Connor Playford and Joe Newman that
were unfortunately wide of the mark. Good play came from Robert
Bottomley, keeper Cameron Dye and Joe Newman but the GBM
construction player of the match was awarded to Lewys Irvine for
a determined performance throughout. When the final whistle
blew the score finished in a 12-0 defeat for Wakefield United.
Better luck next time boys.

ST JOSEPHS
SUNDAY 9TH MARCH 2008 - HOME
Wakefield played hosts this weekend to visitors Upton United
and gave a performance worthy of a Barnsley v Chelsea
encounter. What a difference a week makes as Wakefield were a
different side with plenty of tackling skills and sheer
determination. The first half saw Upton manage 2 goals but
Wakefield were well and truly holding their own with superb
performances from defenders Bhavin Patel, Josh Couser and Robert
Bottomley. The second half saw Wakefield lull just a little but
then their spirits lifted once again with keeper Matthew Peel
making some great saves and Jake Tolson and Lewys Irvine making
some spectacular clearances from off the line. Unfortunately
Wakefield didn't manage to score but their efforts non the less
were super. Great efforts boys this week after all Upton are
top of the league. The final score was a 5-0 win to Upton and
the GBM Player of the Match award went jointly to James Murphy
and Lewys Irvine. Superb team effort keep up the good work.

WAKEFIELD JETS
SUNDAY 30TH MARCH 2008 - HOME
Wakefield United played hosts to Wakefield Jets in blustery
conditions which made it difficult for either side to grab a
firm hold of the game. Jets were first to open the scoring but
United came right back with a super strike from James Murphy.
Again end to end action resulted in Jets putting another goal
away but Joe Newman replied in fine style. Both sides traded
goal scoring opportunites although United had more so with near
misses from Jake Tolson and Matthew Peel. United then gave
Wakefield Jets a couple of scrappy chances which they
capitalized on fully before Connor Playford scored a magnificent
third for United. Wakefield Jets certainly had to work for
their victory and it was unfortunate that the scoreline
reflected poorly for United as they gave a fantastic
performance. Still a newly formulated team having only played a
handful of matches as a full squad United are most definitely on
the up for next season - watch this space. Excellent efforts
from all the team. The GBM Construction Player of the Match was
awarded to Daniel Clarke for an unstoppable performance.
